Rhymney robbery victim was attacked by two intruders in his own home

A robbery victim was hospitalised and left with serious injuries after he was attacked in his own home

Emergency services were called to a property on Forge Crescent, Rhymney, at around 4.30am on Thursday, December 21.

The two intruders took cash and a mobile phone from the house, as well as leaving the 20-year-old man with injuries to his arm following an attack with a “sharp object”.

Detective Inspector Bob Toghill said: “This was a particularly serious incident where strangers have entered someone’s house and attacked them in the place where they felt safe. This has understandably left them very shaken.”

A spokesman for Gwent Police, said: “A 22-year man from Rhymney was arrested on December 22 and has been released on conditional bail.”

Anyone who witnessed the attack or has any information can call 101, quoting log 55 21/12/17, or can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Another crime report and yet again we see the police asking for information about a crime. To prevent these crime (i have said once and will say it again) we need police constables on our streets. We dont need CPOs we dont need Council Wardens we need Police who also have the power to deal with crimes. Caerphilly borough is a crime ridden borough which is spiralling out of control. Gwent police has failed us once again. I feel for the victim.

We,the public are being conned – there is no one out there patrolling and protecting us.
The police respond to calls after an incident has occurred – there is no deterrent or prevention.
Gwent police’s motto “Protecting & Reassuring” is a joke – as they are doing neither.

I often see Trojan horse style police cars about the town, what I mean by that is CPOs driving around pretending to be constables in a car. We need to bring them to task about this now and damand action.

I hada a good chuckle today over an observation, on policing, by Peter Hitchens in his weekly newspaper column. He had read that 44% of the general public had not seen a policeman on the beat in over a year

. Peter found that statistic disturbing as it means that 56% of the public are suffering from hallucinations. I love this man’s humour and perceptiveness.

Yes a cracking sense of humour.
I take it this was a national survey ?
I wonder what the percentages would be solely for Gwent Police ? and also similarly for South Wales Police ? – so that we could make a comparison.

Yes, a national survey, all forces are moving in the same direction. This is away from crime prevention and toward reactive policing. This is the reason police stations close, they no longer want, nor require, a tried and tested way of engaging with the public.

And therein lies part of their problem.
When the local bobby walked their beat in their local community they knew everyone and by engaging with local residents during their patrols they gained a lot of valuable intelligence.
They didn’t need gimmicks to engage the public and good local knowledge and information meant they rarely needed to make appeals for information.
This is a major reason Response ( or Reactive Policing ) doesn’t work.

Why have they replaced something that has always worked? This is beyond me. Growing up as a lad you would always see a bobby on the beat and you could always go to the police station to speak to the sergeant. Police stations now are glorified canteens.

Puzzling isn’t it? When I grew up on a tough council estate there were at least three police houses where a constable lived. The law was never far away.

Yes,when you look at the bigger picture we’ve not only lost those local police houses but we’ve also lost the magistrates courts that were in our main towns and now we’ve lost the police stations in many areas.
The powers that be know the current system isn’t working – they just need the courage to admit it and make the necessary changes that are needed.

It’s a sign of the times, Edward. There are very disturbing indications in our modern society, the lack of political satire in newspapers, radio and TV, which were once a hallmark of being British, is one.

Others include the ‘non platform’ bigots who seek to prevent a full range of views being heard in our universities. The pressure groups that want to airbrush famous historical figures, such as Nelson and Rhodes, from our shared history and so on.

A sad sign of the times. People now a days are a afraid to voice an opinion. It’s ironic really the people who say they support equal rights and want equality for all and want free speech, are the ones that deny this right if your opinion differs from theirs. They then call you a racist or sexiest. They don’t want anyone to have an opinion unless it agrees with them. The snowflake generation

The very big problem in Britain is the flawed Equality Act 2010. Enshrined in law is the idea that various groups have ‘protected characteristics’ which to me is nonsense in terms of equality. True equality is when everyone is treated the same, regardless of whatever ‘characteristics’ they have.

Regarding opinion, you are correct. Tthe people who, increasingly, pull the strings do not believe you should have an opinion – unless it conforms to the very narrow views that they espouse. That is why there are attempts to silence independent thinkers. Little do these censors realise the genie is well and truly out of the bottle with the coming of the internet.
