Sweet manufacturer Bon Bon Buddies has won a licensing award from Hollywood movie studio Universal.

The Oakdale-based firm started working with the studio in 2014 to make Minion-themed confectionery. The popular yellow creatures are the stars of their own animated hit film as well as the Despicable Me franchise.

The company was recognised as ‘Best Consumables Licensee 2017’ at the inaugural Universal Studios UK Licensee Awards 2017.

The confectioner was commended for its performance, innovation and teamwork and beat brands such as Kinnerton, Finsbury Foods, and Kraft Heinz to the award.

Justin Thomas, Managing Director of Bon Bon Buddies, said: “This is a fantastic way to round off a busy year for Bon Bon Buddies. Receiving any award in recognition of your hard work is brilliant, but it always means that little bit extra when it comes from one of your longstanding partners, especially when you’re up against established global brands.”

“Our products – from own-brand confectionery to licensed goods – require hard work at every level, and I’m grateful for the support and efforts put in by our teams across the business who help to grow and nurture our successful relationships not only with Universal Studios, but with all of our partners.”

Established in 1993, Bon Bon Buddies has grown to become Europe’s premier provider of licensed and own-brand character confectionery to more than 40 countries worldwide, with eight dedicated European sales and logistics facilities with further distribution in Central Eastern Europe, China, South East Asia, the Middle East and the US.
