Mary-Gwen Davies, a resident of Hafod Care’s Tŷ Penrhos Care Home in Caerphilly, celebrated her 100th birthday on Wednesday, January 3 surrounded by fellow residents and carers.

Mary-Gwen, originally from the Blackwood area, was a well-known face to the local community in her role as Post Mistress. Since moving to Tŷ Penrhos over three years ago she has assumed a similar role as a stalwart of the home and is often heard singing and chatting with other residents. She particularly enjoys singing along to Delilah when doing armchair Zumba.

Geraint Morgan, manager at Tŷ Penrhos, said: “Mary-Gwen is such character and is very special to everyone here so we are delighted to be able to celebrate her special birthday with her.

“She is a remarkable lady who is always happy and enjoys singing along with the vocal artists that visit us.
“She also has a sweet tooth so her birthday cake was a real treat.”
