A charity Carols and Cava evening raised £450 for Tenovus Cancer Care.

Around 60 people attended the event, which was held before Christmas at Libanus Lifestyle Centre in Blackwood.

Guests were greeted with a glass of Cava provided by the Blackwood Friends of Tenovus Cancer Care, who are based at the centre.

Local singer Sam Cale James – a member of Only Boys Aloud – gave a solo performance, while residents Gordon Bennett and Helen Vaughan played the flute and piano providing the music for the carol services.

Libanus Lifestyle would like to thank Blackwood Town Council for sponsoring the two Christmas trees and lights and Blackwood Garden Centre for its support.

Blackwood councillor Nigel Dix, who attended the event, said: “Libanus Lifestyle are working closely with Tenovus Cancer Care to bring more services into the Blackwood area. Already providing a range of wellbeing services, which many in the community were unable to access before, it is exciting to see how this project is gaining momentum and support from the local community and the future plans the group have.”

Libanus Lifestyle have over the last year refurbished the entrance and toilet block and the main hall of the old Libanus Chapel in Blackwood. They are hoping to this year gain funding to enable them to refurbish the kitchen and create a community café and conservatory space.

The centre is for community use and currently provides complementary therapies and mindfulness techniques.
