A nursery has expanded to give its children more playing space.

Britannia Day Nursery, situated on Caerphilly Business Park, has taken on an extra room in the park’s Lodge building for its toddlers aged from 15 months to two years.

Despite having extra space, the nursery has decided not to increase its 76-children capacity in order to give their little ones extra space to play.

The former toddlers’ room has in turn been converted to an after-school room.

Co-owner Lyn Bourne said: “We haven’t increased our numbers because we just wanted to give our children a bigger area to play in – to have more space for them to enjoy it more.”

The expansion has been a long-time in the making with negotiations to take over the room, which was formerly office space, beginning in February last year. The refurbishment was completed in September and was signed off by Care Inspectorate Wales in December.

The new room has been open since January 8 and it has already been a hit with children and staff.

Lyn added: “It has been a substantial investment from us, but it was needed. Although the room the toddlers were in met standards and the inspectorate were more than happy, we felt it was inadequate. The children needed more space.”
