Staff from Bryn Meadows Golf, Hotel and Spa in Maesycwmmer have helped raised almost £11,000 for charity.
On Friday, February 2, the venue hosted a grand charity ball’ in aid of Velindre Cancer Centre.
It was a black tie event where wearing a touch of red was encouraged for the #WearRedForWalesandVelindre campaign.
The brand new Fairway Suite, where the event was held, was also lit up red in honour of the event.
In January 2017, Robert Noakes, started to fundraise for Velindre Cancer Centre, and set himself a target of £5,000.
The charity was chosen after the support it has given to his wife over the last 18 months, who has been diagnosed with secondary breast cancer and is currently undergoing chemotherapy.
Throughout the year several charity events were held at Bryn Meadows including a 70s disco and a swim-a-thon.
The fitness team also raised money through their ‘Train a Trainer’ event, where leisure members are encouraged to get their own back by making a donation for a ten-minute timeslot.
Other fundraising events organised in conjunction with Mr Noakes included a cycle ride from Cascade in Caerphilly to Port Eynon in Swansea.
Guests at the charity ball were entertained by former Wales rugby international Matthew J Watkins, with a question-and-answer session.
He also spoke about his own battle with cancer, and the treatment and support he had received from the Velindre.
A cheque for £10,419.72 was presented and around £500 was also raised through a raffle held on the night.
Michael Lock, from Velindre Fundraising, said: “We have been incredibly lucky to benefit from Robert’s tireless efforts.
“His determination and commitment have been inspiring, and this amazing amount is testament to that.
Thanks must also go to the wonderfully supportive team from Bryn Meadows, whose ongoing efforts proved vital to Robert’s success.”
