Two men have appeared in court accused of stealing seven mountain bikes worth a total of £21,000.

The distinctive bikes were stolen from BikeShredz on Pentrebane Street on the night of Sunday, February 11.

• Sean Robert Houghton, 39, of Greenwood Court, Lansbury Park, Caerphilly, appeared at Newport Magistrates’ Court on February 16.

He admitted breaking into the shop and stealing the bikes.

Houghton also admitted breaking into the Wheatsheaf Hotel on Market Street, Caerphilly, in January and stealing power tools.

He was remanded in custody and is due to be sentenced at Newport Crown Court on March 19.

• Robert Matthew Seaward, 47, of Lon Yr Odyn, Lansbury Court, Caerphilly, also appeared at Newport Magistrates’ Court on February 16 and denied breaking into Bike Shredz and stealing mountain bikes.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Newport Crown Court on March 19.

As part of his bail conditions, Seaward has been handed a daily curfew between 6pm and 6am in which he has to stay at his home in Lon Yr Odyn and has been tagged.

He has also been banned from contacting Sean Houghton, and the owner of BikeShredz.
