Bargoed shop reopened after council’s closure order

News | | Published: 11:00, Monday May 14th, 2018.

A Bargoed store forced to close after a rat infestation has reopened for business after being cleared by the council.

Caerphilly council had closed Bargoed Local Store in Bargoed high street after a complaint from the public led to an investigation.

The council’s environmental health team inspected the premises at 16 High Street, Bargoed, on April 18 and found a rat infestation.

The council closed the food business operator and the closure was confirmed in Cwmbran Magistrates’ court on April 23 stopping the premises being used as a food business.

The closure order remained in force until the infestation was cleared.

Cabinet member for environment and public protection Cllr Eluned Stenner said: “Our environmental health officers conducted a thorough investigation at the premises and secured a successful outcome in order to protect consumers and public health.

“We are pleased that the matter has now been addressed.”
