Pupils from Tyn y Wern Primary School in Trethomas ‘travelled through time’ recently as part of a history project.
Each class in the school studied a different decade within the last 100 years and dressed up to represent their chosen era.
The school had hoped to emulate famous Trethomas carnivals of the past by holding a parade outside, but unfortunately the poor weather on Tuesday, April 24, meant the children had to show off their work inside.
Despite the rain, the children’s spirits were not dampened with parents and community members alike praising the pupils’ efforts.
The idea for the project was home movie footage of past carnivals, given to the school by one of the support staff members.
HeadteacherSteve Noel said: “This was an outstanding success all round. The whole community was involved and were most appreciative of and impressed by the standard of work produced by the pupils. We are so proud of each and every one them.”
Caerphilly AM Hefin David attended and said: “The pupils and teachers should be very proud of the hard work they’ve put into the project. It’s great the project has been entered for the prestigious Welsh Heritage Schools Initiative competition in 2018. Tyn Y Wern should take great credit for winning an award for the past eight years. It demonstrates the pupils’ commitment to developing an interest in Welsh heritage.”
Chair of Governors Cllr Elizabeth Aldworth and BTM Community Councillor Amanda McConell said: “The children gave a thoroughly enjoyable and super performance in their Carnival Concert and the various artwork was brought to life showing a diverse range of styles, media and cultures.”
