Heol Pwllypant to close one-way for five weeks

Work to improve the Pwllypant roundabout is causing delays to motorists
Work to improve the Pwllypant roundabout is causing delays to motorists

Heol Pwllypant will be closed one way as part of a £5 million upgrade to the A468/9 roundabout.

In March this year, Caerphilly County Borough Council denied claims by Plaid Cymru Penyrheol ward member Cllr Lindsay Whittle that the road would close for two months to allow work.

A video on Facebook where Cllr Whittle’ made the claims, attracted 45,000 views and sparked anger among motorists.
The council issued a statement denying the two-month closure.

However three months on and the road coming off the roundabout will close for works. Residents living in Energlyn, Penyrheol and Pwllypant will be able to join the roundabout but will not be able to go the other way.

A spokesman for Caerphilly County Borough Council said: “Cllr Whittle said in a video that the hill would be completely closed to traffic for two months – at that time we said this would not be the case, but we would have traffic restrictions on the hill to allow key works.

“This position hasn’t changed – there will be a one way restriction on the hill from next week and we anticipate that the works will take five weeks.”

Buses will still be operating, with routes adjusted to take account of the lane closure taking place from Monday, June 11.

Cllr Whittle accused the council of “backtracking” and said: “A few months back they issued a statement in record time that I was telling an ‘untruth’ and that the road would remain open.

“People then began to call me a liar.

“I think they have backtracked in keeping it open one-way because of the backlash from my video.”
Roadworks on the roundabout are due to last until October this year after they began in October last year. Heavy traffic congestion is often reported at the roadworks.

Thankfully we don’t have to speculate, guess or consider backlash as this was already dealt with in March.
I would assume that TM was considered and rejected due to possible queuing onto the roundabout leaving one-way traffic as the only viable option.

I’m not against single occupancy homes, I’m just stating a fact that must single bedroom flats are usually occupied by people who get into trouble or are fresh out of prison. This needs to be monitored so this does not occur. I must say your style of language is very much like a Mr Jack jones on here, complete with bad spelling and grammar!!

Once again Caerphilly Council have been proved to be liars.
Do they not realise that the public no longer believe anything they say?

That roundabout is a pain in the butt
I don’t know if it will ease the traffic in the future.
