The Vanguard Centre, Caerphilly will host the second annual David Hawthorn Memorial Gala Concert on July 14. The event, featuring the Noteworthy Mixed Choir from Maesteg, will raise money for the Tommy Cooper Society in aid of their continued efforts to provide defibrillators for public spaces across Caerphilly via their ‘Tommy’s Ticker’ campaign.
Conducted by Ryan Wood, the Noteworthy Mixed Choir are one of Wales’ leading mixed choirs. Their versatility at this year’s gala concert will see them not only perform as an ensemble, but also take advantage of the many talented musicians and singers within their ranks to perform as soloists throughout the evening.
The concert is an annual event held in memory of the Vanguard Centre’s late chairman, Mr David Hawthorn, who passed away in 2016 after suffering from Motor Neurone Disease.
The evening will also be hosted by David Fortey of award winning Male ensemble, Only Men Aloud.
Mr. Fortey said: “David was a real lover of music and the arts, and in his capacity as Chairman of the Vanguard Centre, he was the first person to congratulate and show his appreciation to any visiting artist on behalf of the centre and the local community.”
“David’s dedication and commitment not only to the Vanguard Centre but also to the local community as a whole was second to none. Even though I only had the privilege of knowing David for a few years, he certainly left his mark on all who met him and it has been such an honour to arrange this concert in his memory.”
“It’s the kind of concert that he would have loved to have attended and I’m delighted that on the day local dignitaries including Wayne David MP, Hefin David AM and the Deputy Lord Lieutenant for Gwent will be in attendance to support the event.”
Last year’s inaugural gala concert raised £3,000 in support of the Motor Neurone Disease Association of South East Wales.
