Police have refused to rule out the possibility that production of butane hash oil – a super strength form of cannabis – was the cause of a house explosion in Llanbradach last month.

Five people were taken to hospital after the blast in Dan-y-Darren, The Rise, on Monday, June 11, and one remains in hospital in a stable condition.

On the day of the explosion, emergency services were called at around 5.30pm with eyewitnesses hearing “two to three” bangs. One neighbour said they saw the front door of the house blown out. Residents rushed out with water and first aid moments after the explosion.

Around half a dozen ambulances were in attendance as well as police, four fire engines, an aerial ladder and a water bowser.

One person in the house was flown to hospital in Birmingham, while three people were taken to Morriston Hospital in Swansea and one to University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.

Wales and West Utilities immediately ruled out the possibility of a gas mains-related explosion, yet Gwent Police have refused to confirm or deny other possible causes.

Caerphilly Observer has been asking police for several weeks to rule out the possibility that the cause of the blast was related to the production of butane hash oil – a highly concentrated form of the drug.

A Gwent Police spokesperson said the force was still awaiting fire reports and forensic submissions from investigators. They said: “[We] are not able to confirm the cause of the explosion at the moment.”

The production method for butane hash oil, or BHO, is regarded as highly dangerous and uses large amounts of the flammable gas – which can cause huge explosions. The process strips out the active chemical THC from cannabis to leave a highly concentrated form of the drug.

Illegal in the UK, BHO is also known as ‘honey oil’, ‘dabs’ and ‘shatter’.

This the reason why must legalise cannabis. I use a cannabis oil from Holland and Barrett a Cbd oil which over the last few mo this has helped me to live pain free with out taking pain killers. The government needs to wake up and realise the health benefits of cannabis. CBD oil is a life saver in my eyes

Check out videos on line of little children with autism and fits and how quick CBD oil calms them down. You are just uneducated and not willing to look at the bigger picture.

Im talking about medical cannabis for use with various conditions, its a proven fact that it helps with arthritis, MS, epilepsy. CBD oil is available in holland and barrett now, this is what I take to relieve arthritis pain. This CBD oil would be available in chemists or by the Doctor. So mr uneducated you see, you have a lot to learn.

If indeed the Police conclude that the production of butane hash oil was the cause of this explosion, then the insurance company will not pay out.
Also if this was the cause I doubt if any of the neighbours of these people would welcome them back to that estate.
Any sympathy that people had for these people will also
    quickly disappear.

    This article is ridiculous.

“Caerphilly Observer has been asking police for several weeks to rule out the possibility that the cause of the blast was related to the production of butane hash oil”.

“A Gwent Police spokesperson said the force was still awaiting fire reports and forensic submissions from investigators.”

The police can’t rule anything out if the reports haven’t yet been received. The headline of the article could just as easily have read “Police refuse to rule out muppet house party as possible cause of house explosion in Llanbradach”. This is poor journalism.
