Big Cheese celebrates 21st year despite poor weather

The Big Cheese was well attended in its 21st year despite the weather

This year’s Big Cheese festival still attracted tens of thousands of visitors to Caerphilly despite heavy rain throughout the weekend.

Organised by Caerphilly County Borough Council, the event, was celebrating its 21st anniversary, and attracted close to 70,000 visitors over the course of the weekend.

There had been concerns that the attendance would be affected by the ongoing work on Pwllypant roundabout.

Before the funfair opened, more than 400 children with disabilities were invited to enjoy a special free session.

The children and their families were the special guests of Caerphilly County Borough Council, who put on the session every year to provide a quieter period for the families to enjoy the attractions before the crowds descend on the site.

The funfair opening was followed by the traditional cheese race and firework display on the Friday evening.

Caerphilly Castle played host to a range of exciting re-enactments and interactive encampments in addition to hosting Caerphilly Male Voice Choir who performed in the Great Hall.
