Megaday will return to Caerphilly RFC’s Virginia Park on Sunday, August 26.
The charity music festival, which raises money for Velindre Cancer Centre, is now in its 24th year.
This year’s event will have nine live bands playing inside the huge marquee including headliners 4th Street, plus Bon Jovi Tribute – One Wild Night, The Strip Lights, Best Served Chilled, The Clones, Cancel The Transmission, Graffiti, Smokestack Lightnin and Access All Areas.
There will be a large bar, food outlets plus an opportunity to buy an all-day pass for kids inflatables.
The day will finish with an explosive fireworks display at 10.30pm.
In recent years Megaday Saturday has been a huge success and attracted large audiences. Due to its growth, organisers have announced it is to be spun into its own Welsh-music event to be held at Bedwas Workman’s Hall in October. This will include choirs, soloists and dancers.
Megaday is a tribute to Caerphilly musician Andrew Nichols, who lost his battle with cancer in 1995.
Andrew was known to his friends by the nickname Mega, and so the event was named Megaday in his honour.
The first Megaday was held on Sunday, September 17, 1995 at Caerphilly RFC, with six local bands performing.
The event raised over £3,600, and its success inspired the organisers to make Megaday an annual event.
In August 2001, Paul “PG” Grahame who had been instrumental in the organisation of Megaday from the outset and had performed at every Megaday with his band, PG and the Tips, also passed away from cancer and hit the Megaday community hard once more.
Following this, the Megaday organisers became more determined than ever and the music festival has been held in memory of both Mega and PG ever since.
Pete Hopkins, one of the Megaday organisers, said: “It’s going to be a great day, people will have the opportunity to remember lost loved ones, have a great time and support Megaday in working towards our next target of £350,000 raised for Velindre Cancer Centre.
“If you would like to offer help in our fundraising as a volunteer please contact us through our Facebook page.
Megaday relies on the support of the local community, business, performers and a large team of volunteers and we would like to thank you for your continued support.”
