A community centre in Oakdale is upgrading its facilities to help it become more environmentally sustainable.
Work has already been completed on installing batteries to store surplus energy generated by the centre’s solar panels, as well as upgrading the CCTV security system and changing all lighting to LEDs.
It is hoped the work will reduce energy bills and enhance the centre’s efficiency and sustainability.
The centre was named the ‘Most Energy Efficient Village Hall’ in Gwent’s Best Kept Village Competition.
The work has been funded by a grant from Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Welsh Church Act Fund.
Oakdale Community Centre is home to over 20 local community groups.
The centre’s chairperson, Ann Parsons, said: “We very much appreciate the support of our regular users and aim to provide them with first class facilities to enjoy their activities. I’m sure everyone will be suitably impressed with the improvements when they return in September.”
