Proposals to remodel and reclassify accommodation for elderly people in the Caerphilly County Borough will be considered over the coming weeks.
A report by the council proposes a series of options for accommodation for elderly people across the county borough, focussing on ensuring council accommodation meets the needs of current and future tenants.
The report also seeks to address issues of low demand for sheltered housing accommodation in some parts of the county.
Options for accommodation are proposed at Britannia Court, Ty Melin, Ynyswen, Castle Court, St Marys Court and Waunfawr House, as well as proposals for accommodation at Hafod Y Bryn, Tredegar Court and a number of partially decommissioned older persons’ housing schemes across the county borough.
Members of the Caerphilly Homes Task Group will be asked to consider the report on Tuesday, September 4, followed by the council’s Policy and Resources Scrutiny Committee on Thursday, September 6. It will then be considered by cabinet members on Wednesday, September 12.
Cllr Lisa Phipps, Cabinet Member for Homes and Places, said: “We always strive to deliver accommodation that meets the needs and aspirations of our residents – both now and into the future.
“However, largely due to age, design and the changing needs of our customers, a number of our existing schemes require remodelling in order to make them desirable and fit for purpose for our residents.
“This ambitious series of proposals, which could involve huge investment in our older person’s schemes, would help ensure that our accommodation will meet the needs of our residents for many years to come.”
The council has confirmed that all tenants of the sheltered housing schemes identified in the report have been written to in advance of the report being considered, and would be fully consulted and advised on future proposals for the various schemes.
