Volunteers from across Caerphilly County Borough honoured with awards

Volunteers from Caerphilly County Borough were recognised at a special awards ceremony held on Wednesday, September 19.

The annual Volunteer Achievement Awards evening took place at Blackwood Miners’ Institute, with a number of special guests including the Lord Lieutenant of Gwent, Brigadier Robert Aitken CBE and Deputy Mayor of Caerphilly County Borough Council, Cllr. Julian Simmonds who presented awards to the volunteers.

The evening, which was organised by Caerphilly County Borough Council and Gwent Association of Voluntary Organisations (GAVO), invited over 100 people to celebrate the success of those nominated for the awards.

The full list of winners is:
Adult Volunteer of the Year – Andrea Rodley.
Young Volunteer of the Year – Eden-Mae Davies.
Group Volunteer of the Year – Newbies and 2bies.
Trustee Volunteer of the Year – Barbara Bevan.
Environmental Volunteer of the Year – Peter Guppy.
Personal Journey Volunteer of the Year – Mark Jones.
Parent Volunteer of the Year – Karaokee Kids.
Mayor’s Civic Award (Grass Roots Volunteer of the Year) – Martyn Cooke.
Inspirational Volunteer of the Year – Gary Butcher.

Gary Butcher received the Inspirational Volunteer of the Year award, as well as receiving the Highly Commended award for his dedication and hard work at Cwmcarn Amateur Boxing Club and for his commitment to the town and all its young people.

A musical interlude was provided by the Side by Side Choir.

Cllr Julian Simmonds, Deputy Mayor of Caerphilly County Borough said: “The Voluntary Sector Achievement Awards provide a fantastic occasion for us to honour the hard-working volunteers in our local community.”
