Latest closure information for Pwllypant roundabout

News | | Published: 08:46, Wednesday October 3rd, 2018.

Pwllypant roundabout

A series of road closures has been announced as part of a multimillion pound upgrade of the Pwllypant roundabout in Caerphilly.

There will be no access to Heol Pwllypant from the roundabout for a period of five days for remedial works to be carried out. The works will begin at 9.30am on Monday, October 8 and are expected to be complete by the morning of Saturday, October 13.

During this time, there will be no access to traffic entering Heol Pwllypant from Pwllypant roundabout, and a signposted diversionary route via Trecenydd and Penyrheol will be in place. Traffic will still be able to flow from Heol Pwllypant and will be able to exit onto Pwllypant roundabout during this time.

As a result of the one way restriction, there will also be some alterations to buses operating on Route D during this period.

Buses on route D from Caerphilly to Penyrheol will operate as normal up to Pwllypant roundabout, then use the A468 up to Trecenydd roundabout, The Bowls and Heol Aneurin to Penyrheol Terminus. These buses will then return to Caerphilly as Route C so will not go to Heol Pwllypant. Route D buses from Penyrheol towards Caerphilly will not be affected by the revised layout.

Passengers wishing to return from Caerphilly to Heol Pwllypant should use route C buses leaving Caerphilly at 8am and hourly until 6pm. These buses return via Pwllypant as route D after serving Penyrheol terminus.

Meanwhile, more overnight road closures have been announced as part of the ongoing work.

The closures, between 7pm and 6am, will allow for final road surfacing to be laid to the roundabout arms.
The closures will take place on:

Monday, October 15, and Tuesday October 16: Trecenydd arm of roundabout – closure in both directions from Pwll-y-Pant to Trecenydd roundabout.

Wednesday October 17: Llanbradach northbound – closure from Pwllypant roundabout to Coed y Brain roundabout.

Thursday, October 18, and Friday, October 19: Heol Pwllypant closed at its intersection with Pwllypant to intersection with Central Street in both directions. Also entry and exit to Pwllypant roundabout from Pontygwindy Road, from junction with Catnic/Kingsmead estate.

Thursday, October 25 and Friday, October 26: Bedwas arm – closure in both directions between Pwllypant roundabout and Gallagher roundabout.

Wednesday, November 7 and Thursday, November 8: Llanbradach southbound – closure from Coed Y Brain roundabout to Pwllypant roundabout.

Caerphilly County Borough Council said diversionary routes will be put in place and will be clearly signposted.
Emergency vehicle access will be maintained at all times.

While the hours of work will be between 7pm and 6am, they may be of shorter duration depending on the specific works carried out each day.
