£6 million funding boost for five Welsh medium primary schools in Caerphilly County Borough

News | | Published: 11:00, Wednesday October 3rd, 2018.

Five Welsh medium primary schools are to be awarded a total of £6 million in Welsh Government funding to boost the number of places for pupils by around 200.

Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Y Castell in Caerphilly town, pictured above, is set to get the most funding with £1,648,495.

That is followed by Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Bro Allta in Ystrad Mynach which is in line for £1,630,620, while Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Cwm Derwen in Oakdale will get £1,620,620.

Ysgol Penalltau in Hengoed will get £730,935 and Ysgol Ifor Bach in Abertridwr £497,230.

Cllr Philippa Marsden, Cabinet Member for Education, said: “This significant funding will allow us to make significant improvements in the provision of Welsh medium education in Caerphilly County Borough.

“As well as the physical enhancements that will be made to the school sites themselves, this funding will allow us to create an additional 200 Welsh medium school places for our young people to benefit from, so we warmly welcome this significant funding announcement from Welsh Government.

“It’s important to stress that this is a five-year programme, but now that funding for these schemes has been approved we can consider the scheduling for these programmes of work in earnest.”
