13 Market Street has opened in the old Wheatsheaf pub

A new restaurant has opened in Caerphilly town centre.

13 Market Street has recently opened in the building formerly known as the Wheatsheaf.

The restaurant will take on different aspects throughout the day, serving coffee and afternoon teas alongside the main menu.

Tom Musto, manager of the new restaurant, said: “We feel that 13 Market Street should be for every occasion, whether it be a casual bite to eat or a family celebration.”

He added: “During the day we offer a selection of gourmet Welsh-roasted coffee, an array of loose-leaf herbal and flavoured teas to enjoy and a selection of cakes.”

The restaurant’s interior has been designed by TV’s Deborah Drew

The restaurant opens at 10am every day and offers a range of cocktails, including a signature cocktail named after Gilbert De Clare, the man who built Caerphilly Castle.

But don’t worry if cocktails aren’t your thing, as Mr Musto said: “We have what we believe is Caerphilly’s best selection of spirits, craft ales and continental lagers.”

The interior of the new restaurant was designed by Deborah Drew, who was formerly a presenter on DIY SOS, which she worked on alongside current I’m A Celeb star Nick Knowles.

Meanwhile, sous-chef Thomas Martin, 22, has recently won a national award.

Mr Martin was named Foundation Apprentice of the Year at the Apprenticeship Awards Cymru, which were held at the Celtic Manor Resort on November 9.
