An investigation has been launched after a “tablet” was found in a birthday cake given to a pupil.

Parents of pupils at Tir-y-Berth Primary School were sent a warning via a messaging app on Friday, January 18 – the day the incident was said to have happened.

Absolutely dread to hear about this incident @Tiryberthschool today, let’s hope that the child involved makes a speedy recovery and that a full investigation is taken by the school @WalesOnline @CaerphillyObsvr @itvnews @BBCWalesNews @CaerphillyCBC pic.twitter.com/labPFYB0j4

The school sent out a message asking parents to be vigilant after the “tablet” was found in one of the birthday cakes handed out to pupils.

It is unclear whether the cakes were home-made or shop-bought or under what circumstances they were given to pupils aged between seven and nine.

It is also unknown what the tablet is or how it may have got into the cake.

A spokesman for Caerphilly County Borough Council confirmed it was aware of the incident and that an investigation is currently taking place.
