A company at the forefront of the move away from single-use plastics has been named Start-up Business of the Year at the South Wales Chamber of Commerce awards.

Founded in 2017, Ystrad Mynach-based Transcend Packaging Ltd specialises in manufacturing paper straws and has major contracts to supply McDonald’s and other firms.

Managing Director Lorenzo Angelucci said: “We’re honoured to be recognised as the Start-Up Business of the Year at these well-respected awards.

“Not only does it represent our commitment to creating a more sustainable Wales, but it also shows our ambition to bring our environmentally sustainable packaging to companies around the world.

“Our entire Transcend team appreciates the generous support from the Welsh Government and Caerphilly County Borough Council and we look forward to providing jobs in Wales for many years to come.”

Heather Myers, CEO of South and Mid Wales Chamber of Commerce said: “We were impressed by Transcend Packaging’s business plan. Although they’ve only been in business for a relatively short time, they’ve already experienced remarkable successes.

“Their clear vision and commitment to sustainability shows that this business is prepared to make their mark in the world of packaging.”
