Risca couple fined for not cleaning their garden of dog poo

News | | Published: 11:08, Tuesday March 12th, 2019.

A couple have been fined £600 by magistrates for failing to clean the dog poo from their garden.

Chloe Evans, 20, and Ieuan Smith, 23, both of Holly Road, Risca, were fined £300 each for breaching a Community Protection Notice when they appeared at Cwmbran Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, March 7. The order instructs the pair to ensure that all dog waste was cleared from the garden, which they failed to do. Smith and Evans had denied breaching the order.

A spokesman for Caerphilly County Borough Council, which brought the prosecution, said: “This is a long-standing case against two tenants that have had little or no regard for the welfare of their neighbours nor their two dogs.

“Despite many written warnings and visits to the property to seek co-operation, the tenants have failed to clean up after their dogs. If any future breaches are witnessed, we shall be asking the courts to grant forfeiture of any dogs kept at the property. Any dogs seized shall be entered on to the council’s stray dog rehoming scheme.”

The tenants were previously found guilty of contravening a Statutory Nuisance Abatement Notice on five separate occasions and fined a total of £420 at Newport Magistrates on February,23, last year.
