A MasterChef UK contestant from Caerphilly has advanced into the semi-final knockout stage of the show.
Stephen Ford, 49, who is one of the organisers of Caerphilly’s live music event Megaday is one of the final 12 contestants.
Mr Ford impressed judges Gregg Wallace and John Torode with his pan-fried duck breast dish.
The dish included infused star anise fondant potatoes, crispy egg yolk, a five spice crispy duck leg parcel, seasonal pan-fried vegetables, spicy duck jus and orange vinaigrette.
Mr Ford said: “The dish was a family favourite inspired by my father.”
He added: “It was challenging to cook as you’re under the clock with cameras in your face and you’re being interviewed, so it’s like juggling.
“Lucky enough it was perfect. John said it was ‘addictive and ace’, while Gregg said he loved it.
“That’s as good as it gets. I was against eight tremendously talented cooks so I was really happy to hear my name called out.”
In the next round, the 12 contestants will be split into two groups of six, with both groups going into a professional restaurant.
Mr Ford said: “I’m really excited. I’ve never worked in a professional kitchen before, so I’ll be tested in a way I’ve never been tested before.”
The episodes will air on BBC One at 8pm on Wednesday, March 13 and Thursday March 14. Another episode will air at 9.30pm on Thursday, March 14.
