Deri girl to star on BBC’s All Together Now

News | Rhys Williams | Published: 11:40, Friday March 22nd, 2019.

Carys Lloyd will perform on Saturday night’s episode of All Together Now

A 17-year-old girl from Deri, near Bargoed will perform on TV talent show All Together Now on Saturday, March 23.

Carys Lloyd will be the youngest contestant on the series, which sees singers perform in front of 100 judges, including Spice Girls’ Geri Halliwell.

The show sees singers aim to impress as many judges as possible to book their place in the final.

Carys told Caerphilly Observer: “I’ve always loved singing and wanted to do something where people can hear me sing. It’s a platform for me.

“I was really excited to be performing in front of so many people. I was shaking with adrenaline.”

When Carys was nine-years-old, she joined Only Kids Aloud, which she was a part of until she was 15.

At the age of just 12, with Only Kids Aloud, she performed with opera singer Bryn Terfel in the Cape Town Opera House in South Africa.

She has also been part of the Welsh National Opera youth section and won the Valleys-based VOTV singing competition when she was 15.

She is currently studying Performing Arts at college and is working towards achieving a Grade Eight in Classical Singing.
She said: “I hope that people will enjoy my performances. Recently, music has been about big belting songs and I just want to strip it back and I hope people enjoy it.”

All Together Now is presented by Rob Beckett and Geri Halliwell

Carys, who was 16 when the episode was filmed, will perform Pure Imagination from the 1971 film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

“It’s one of the songs I used to enjoy singing with Only Kids Aloud.”

Carys added: “I’m really excited to watch the show on Saturday night because all my friends are coming over to watch it at my house.

“My friends from college are really supportive of me.”

Carys’ mother, Claire Lloyd said: “Carys used to sing in the cot when she was a baby and she even sings when she’s in Tesco.

“She really amazes me on stage, I wish I had her confidence – I was always the one who had jelly legs and was nervous.

Mrs Lloyd added: “I feel emotional, overwhelmed and proud when she sings on stage.”

All Together Now will air on BBC One on Saturday, March 23 at at 7.20pm.
