A barbershop in Trethomas will be holding a 12-hour ‘hairathon’ on Sunday, April 28 to raise money for charity.

The event will take place at Blade Kings Barbers on Newport Road and will begin at 8am.

Hairdressers Jared Cameron, Kacy Callaghan and Sophie Clarke will attempt to continuously cut customers’ hair without stopping in order to raise money for mental health charity, Mind.

Mr Cameron said: “We’re raising money for Mind because we know members of staff and customers who have struggled with their mental health.

“I thought it would be a good idea to raise awareness.”

Anyone willing to make a donation is welcome to attend and have a haircut.

Mr Cameron added: “We’re all pretty excited for this to be honest. I can’t wait for it to start.

“I’ve been planning this for a number of weeks now and I’m hoping to raise around £300 to £400.”

Maria Khosla, Events Fundraising Manager at Mind, said: “We’re very grateful to Blade Kings Barbers for raising money for us, while at the same time raising awareness of mental health problems with their customers.

“It’s vitally important that men seek help for their mental health problems, but self-stigma and a lack of understanding of mental health prevents many men from talking to family and friends about it because of fear and anxiety about negative consequences.

“The money raised by Blade Kings Barbers will help us to keep providing help and support for everyone with a mental health problem in Wales.”
