Brexit Party wins two seats for Wales in European Election – Plaid Cymru and Labour taking one apiece

Nigel Farage’s Brexit Party has won two Welsh seats in the European election with Plaid Cymru and Labour picking up the remaining two.

Nathan Gill and James Wells were elected Members of European Parliament for the Brexit Party, while Jill Evans and Jackie Jones were elected for Plaid and Labour respectively.

The poll, which took place on Thursday, May 23, is the worst election result for Labour in Wales and were down 12.86 percentage points in their overall share of the vote.

In Caerphilly County, Labour were down 17.4 percentage points and came second overall with the Brexit Party, whose leader Nigel Farage campaigned in Caerphilly town, came up with 37.3% of the vote.

The turnout in Caerphilly was just 32.9%

Brexit Party – 15,808 – 37.3%
Labour – 8,354 – 19.7%
Plaid Cymru – 7,548 – 17.8%
Lib Dems – 3,795 – 9%
Greens – 2,302 – 5.4%
UKIP – 1,846 – 4.4%
Conservative – 1,552 – 3.7%
Change UK – 1,182 – 2.8%
