Caerphilly Tennis Club has finished as runners-up in the Club of the Year award at the LTA (Lawn Tennis Association) Awards.
The club, which was one of three clubs from across the UK to be nominated, was pipped to the prize by Ipswich Sports Club.
The award ceremony was held at Wimbledon on Tuesday, July 2.
The club, which is based at Virginia Park in Caerphilly town centre, beat more than 70 clubs from across the UK to be nominated for the award.
Head coach Jonathan Morgan, who attended the ceremony, spoke to Caerphilly Observer before the awards and said: “I was very shocked when I found out. We had a call from the LTA and it was hard not to laugh down the phone. It’s crazy – we’re a little club.
“The committee have been great, we’ve been growing numbers and it’s really rewarding seeing our work within the club and the wider community being noticed.
“Our membership is the highest it’s been for ten years.”
Scott Lloyd, CEO of the LTA said: “Congratulations to all of the nominees and winners of this year’s LTA Tennis Awards.
“As the governing body for tennis, we can’t achieve our vision of opening up the sport without their support, so I would like to extend my thanks to each and every one of them for all that they do.”
