Crown roundabout, Pontllanfraith

The A4049 road in Pontllanfraith has been closed in both directions following a crash involving two cars.

The crash happened near the Crown roundabout at around 6.20am this morning (Monday, July 8).

Police are letting some heavy goods vehicles pass through due to the lack of a suitable diversion, according to the AA.

A spokesperson for Gwent Police said: “At approximately 6.20am this morning, we received reports of a road traffic collision close to the Crown Roundabout, linking the A472 and A4049 near Pontllanfraith.

“A green Citroen Picasso and grey Vauxhall Astra collided, leaving both drivers with injuries, not believed to be serious. Fire and ambulance crews attended and road closures were put into place in the local area.”

A spokesperson for Welsh Ambulance Service said: “We were called on Monday, July 8 at approximately 6:20 am to reports of a road traffic accident involving two vehicles near Pontllanfraith.

“We responded with one rapid response vehicle and two ambulances and we were supported by the Police and Fire & Rescue services. Two patients were transported by road ambulance to Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport.”
