Fire at disused youth centre in Pontllanfraith ‘suspicious’

The youth centre on Sir Ivor’s Road, Pontllanfraith

Gwent Police have launched an investigation into a “suspicious” fire at a disused youth centre.

Fire broke out at the centre on Sir Ivor’s Road in Pontllanfraith at around 8.45pm on Saturday, July 13.

Police are currently treating the fire as suspicious and have began an investigation alongside South Wales Fire and Rescue Service.

In a statement, Gwent Police said: “There have been reports of a group of people in the area before the emergency services arrived at the scene.

“We are appealing for witnesses who may have seen anybody in the vicinity of the building between 8pm and 8.45pm.”
Police are appealing for anyone with information, CCTV images or dash cam footage to come forward.

Anyone with information can call Gwent Police on 101, quoting log number 540 of 13/7/19. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
