Nursery celebrates tenth anniversary

Britannia Day Nursery is celebrating its tenth anniversary

A day nursery has marked its tenth anniversary by holding a special party for its children and their parents.

Britannia Day Nursery became an independent company when it was sold by property services firm Connaught in July 2009.

Originally a nursery set up by a director of Connaught’s predecessor, National Britannia, the company was sold to present-day directors Lyn Bourne, Cindy Baghurst, pictured right, and Tracy Hewer.

Lyn worked with National Britannia in HR while Cindy was a cook at the nursery. Tracy, who is Lyn’s sister, works for a local company.

Lyn explained: “Back then we had about 16 members of staff and about 90 children. We’ve since grown to 31 members of staff and look after around 160 children, we are registered to take 76 children each day.”

The nursery held a special party for children and parents at Virginia Park Golf Club in Caerphilly on July 14.

Cindy said: “We just want to say a huge thank you to all of our parents over the years for their efforts. Their support has been amazing and a huge thank you to our staff who have supported us over the last ten years – your commitment to us is so appreciated.”

Lyn said: “The nursery prides itself in the investment it makes in its staff with all of them holding the relevant childcare qualifications. Many of them have also taken additional qualifications. All of the children we have cared for over the last ten years are very special to us. Seeing them go through the nursery and then on to school is a very proud moment for everyone.”

Cindy added: “Our relationship with parents is really important to us and it is really appreciated by them that their opinion matters.

“We look forward to the next ten years.”
