Llanbradach Horticultural Show raises £500 for Velindre

The 17th annual Llanbradach Horticultural Show has raised £500 for Velindre Cancer Centre.

Show organisers Wayne Evans and Terry Coombes, both of the Wingfield Allotments Association, will present a cheque to the charity at a later date.

The show was held on Sunday, August 18.

Resident Lee Samuel was awarded the Perpetual Trophy, which is given to the person who wins the most trophies at the show.

Mr Samuel won the Ellis Stanbury Cup and the Giant Veg trophy for the cabbage he grew.

The cabbage was 3ft5in wide and weighed 12lbs.

Other winners include Peter Reed, who won the Cooking Section; Cathy Lee, winner of the Ronnie Rudge Memorial Cup and Tim Negus, who was awarded the Novice Cup.

Chris Jones won the Jimmy Strong Trophy for his onions, as well as the Terry Coombes Trophy for the best exhibit.

Mr Jones’ won the latter award for his pumpkin and squash hybrid.

The children’s category winners were Lexi, Alana and Conner.
