Staff at the One Stop Shop in Markham have raised more than £2,000 for charity

Staff from the One Stop shop in Markham have raised £2,000 for Velindre Cancer Centre.

The charity walk to the top of Sugar Loaf mountain near Abergavenny was held in memory of Adrian Wall, who was the partner of a member of staff and passed away from cancer several years ago.

Staff were joined on the walk by friends, family, former staff and the area manager, as well as managers of other One Stop shops.

Staff member Emma Griffiths said: “We walked from the very bottom as our mini bus couldn’t make it through the lanes to the car park, so it took us an hour just to get to the start.

“The weather thankfully stayed lovely for us and once we’d all made it to the top we had amazing views.

“We had a brilliant day, it was very challenging but totally worth it.

“This was our fourth walk in the last three years and we raised an amazing £2265.74.”

Staff have walked along the Taff Trail, climbed Pen y Fan and did a tour of other One Stop Shops to raise money for charity over the past few years.

“A big thank you goes to the local businesses that helped support our raffle by donating prizes and also to our customers and families that sponsored us and bought raffle tickets.

“Our community are amazing when it comes to supporting us with our fundraising.

“Now to plan next years event.”
