The area at Bridgend Allotments after it was cleared

Six new allotment spaces have been cleared at the Bridgend Allotments in Bedwas.

Tony Hubbert, who has a plot at the allotments, was concerned with how overgrown some of the plots had become, so contacted his former employer, Alun Griffiths of Alun Griffiths Contractors, for help.

The area was overgrown before it was cleared to make way for allotment plots

Mr Griffiths responded by lending a digger to Mr Hubbert, who used to drive diggers for a living.

Mr Hubbert used the digger to clear some of the overgrowth, making way for six new plots.

Members of the Bridgend Allotment Association thanked Mr Hubbert for his work, as well as Mr Griffiths for lending his tools.

The new plots are set to be available in the near future. Anyone interested in having a plot can contact association secretary Keith Mulcahy on 07976 253 235.
