Voters in Caerphilly will hit the polling stations on Thursday, December 12 for the third General Election in five years.

The constituency includes: Abertridwr, Bargoed, Bedwas, Caerphilly, Cefn Hengoed, Draethen, Gelligaer, Gilfach, Glan y Nant, Graig y Rhacca, Hengoed, Llanbradach, Machen, Nelson, Penallta, Penpedairheol, Penybryn, Rudry, Senghenydd, Tir y Berth, Trethomas and Ystrad Mynach.

Find out what the candidates standing in the Caerphilly constituency have to say below.

Labour – Wayne David

Wayne David
Labour candidate Wayne David

This is a vitally important election.  I am standing because I believe in Labour values – decency, fairness and equality of opportunity.  Only a Labour Government can create a country for the many not the few.

Central to Labour’s message is the future of the NHS.  Labour wants to defend and expand the NHS to meet the needs of all our people, irrespective of their wealth.

I live in the constituency and my office is there to serve my constituents.  I have always stood up for Caerphilly and I want my constituents’ support so that I can continue my work.

Conservatives – Jane Pratt

Conservative candidate Jane Pratt

I was born in Pontypridd and live in South East Wales. Both my Grandfathers were coalminers. I am proud of my Welsh heritage and it would be an honour to represent Caerphilly.

This election is about representing the wishes of the electorate. 57% voted to leave in Caerphilly and I am the only Candidate who can ensure we leave by the end of January 2020. So let’s get Brexit done so we can concentrate on other priorities, more money for the National Health Service, extra funding for Schools and getting more police officers on the beat.

I hope you will support me. For further information see my Facebook page – Jane4Caerphilly.

Plaid Cymru – Lindsay Whittle

Plaid Cymru candidate Lindsay Whittle

My roots and heart are in Caerphilly. I was born and live here and have been a councillor fighting for our communities for 43 years, while also volunteering in local schools.

I’m proud of my record of public service, including as an Assembly Member.

Caerphilly desperately needs a politician that will fight for Caerphilly, not just one happy to sit on the back benches.

For the first time in 100 years we can break the Labour stronghold. They are a tired poorly led organisation, locally and nationally. For the future let’s consign them to history. If people want change, they need to vote Plaid Cymru.

Brexit Party – Nathan Gill

Nathan Gill MEP has been announced as the Brexit Party’s General Election candidate for Caerphilly

I have been involved in frontline Welsh politics over the last 16 years, and have served as your MEP for Wales for the last five years.

I worked tirelessly for the Brexit vote in 2016, and 57.6% of people here in Caerphilly voted to leave.

That vote has not only been ignored, but you have been ridiculed, belittled and slighted for daring to vote against the establishment.

Your current MP spent three and a half years doing everything he could to stop your Brexit.

I will spend my waking hours ensuring that it is delivered.

You have called for CHANGE by voting for Brexit, you called for change by voting for the Brexit Party in the European Elections.  You must now see this through to the end, and vote for change once more.”
