Pupils at Bedwas High School have won an anti-drink driving poster competition.

The annual competition, which is run by Caerphilly County Borough Council’s road safety team, aims to raise awareness of the dangers of drink driving.

Several schools took part in the competition, which ran from September to November.

The winners were chosen by Susan Davies, the council’s engineering team and road safety officer.

Pupil Zac Idz claimed first place in the competition, with Katie Wilcox, Tegan Fletcher, Lilly Elias and Harriett Merrett finishing as runners up.

The pupils were invited to the office of Caerphilly County Borough Mayor, Cllr Julian Simmonds, to receive their prizes.

All five pieces of work are now on display at the council’s headquarters in Tredomen, while the winning entry will be used on the council’s social media pages to promote Gwent Police’s anti-drink driving Christmas campaign.

Cllr Sean Morgan, cabinet member for infrastructure, said: “Congratulations to Bedwas High School who have once again presented fantastic artwork for this competition.

“It’s great to see the pupils understanding the risks involved with drink driving and contributing to help raise awareness.”
