Carys James and Byron Yates collected gifts for children and teenagers

A Caerphilly couple have donated 50 Christmas gift bags to charity Barnardo’s Cymru.

Carys James and Byron Yates collected the gifts from family, friends and work colleagues at Hugh James Solicitors and Admiral Insurance.

Ms James is no stranger to collecting gifts for charity, making regular donations to Barnardo’s long before she moved to Caerphilly from Bristol.

More than 120 presents donated to Christmas box appeal

Many of the donated gifts will go to disadvantaged teenagers this Christmas.

Ms James said: “Toy appeals often concentrate on younger children and I knew older young people are less well catered for. I wanted to do something for teenagers such as those leaving care.

“I put an appeal out to my friends on Facebook and to work colleagues and people were really generous.”

Sarah Crawley, director at Barnardo’s Cymru, said: “We are very grateful to Carys, Byron and all those who donated.

“We support many young adults who might have little or nothing to open on Christmas Day, so these will be really appreciated.”
