Bargoed thumped Maesteg Quins 45-3 away from home on Saturday, January 11 to keep the pressure on league leaders Pontypool.

The visitors opened the scoring at the wet and windy South Parade Playing Fields, with scrum-half Huw Rees scoring under the posts.

Steffan Jones scored the conversion to give the Bulls a 7-0 lead.

A penalty from Maesteg’s Tadgh McGuckin soon followed, cutting the lead to four points.

But after 25 minutes, Bargoed extended their lead through a try from prop Kieron Brown, which was converted by Jones.

With Bargoed beginning to take a real hold of the game, ill-discipline hit the Quins, who were reduced to 14 men for ten minutes.

Bargoed made the most of the advantage as Adam Powell scored try number three and Jones added the extras. The score was now 21-3.

The four-try bonus point was secured before half-time. Rees scored his second try of the game as the Bulls took a 26-3 lead into the break.

Bargoed started the second half off brightly, going even further into the lead when Calum Jones crossed the line for a try.

Try number six was scored by Jordan Howells, with Jones converting to make the score 38-3 to Bargoed.

Substitute winger Adam Jones scored the seventh and final try as Bargoed rounded off a resounding win.

Steffan Jones scored the conversion and Bargoed resisted a late Quins onslaught to seal a 45-3 win.

On Saturday, January 18, Bargoed host sixth-placed Glamorgan Wanderers in the league.
