Caerphilly Tennis Club has won three awards at the 2019 Tennis Wales Awards.

The club was nominated for four categories at the awards ceremony, which was held at St David’s Hotel in Cardiff on Saturday, January 25.

The club, based in Virginia Park, saw off competition from Cardiff Lawn Tennis Club and Rhiwbina Tennis Club to win the Club of the Year award for the second year running.

Meanwhile, the club’s head coach Jonathan Morgan won the Coach of the Year award.

Morgan has run a variety of courses for all ages and has been instrumental in the club’s schools programme, which has reached more than 3,000 children across seven primary schools and three secondary schools.

Completing the hat-trick of awards was 15-year-old Jonah Jones, who won the Young Person of the Year award.

Jones volunteered 160 hours of his time at the club, helping with coaching sessions, holiday camps and other events held by the club.

However, Ceri Simpson, who is a committee member at the club, as well as the adult representative, missed out on the Volunteer of the Year award.

As part of his role, Simpson volunteered at numerous club events and took on an ambassadorial role at club open days, as well as helping adult members of the club to play more tennis outside of club sessions.
