Four comprehensive school students have presented a book they wrote at the South Wales Trade Fair at the Ikea store in Cardiff.

Marty’s Tails – The benefits of therapy dogs: Changing lives, winning hearts and making friends was written by Year 10 pupils at St Martin’s Comprehensive School, Caerphilly.

The book, which was presented on Thursday, January 30, outlines the benefits of therapy dogs, inspired by their experience with Marty the school dog.

Marty, a 21-week-old male Maltipoo, became part of the school after pupils presented a risk assessment to school governors, who agreed to their request.

The book aims to persuade other schools to invest in a similar concept and is a reminder of the benefits of having a dog.

The girls sold dog-related products to raise extra money for their school project company.

They earned £71.30 and received two prizes: “Best use of Social Media” and “Best Customer Service”, as awarded by Ikea staff.

The book is available for £6 each and £5 before February 28.
