Help for Heroes has launched a fundraising challenge with the help of a songwriting duo from Caerphilly.
The ‘Dragon Challenge’, which launched on St David’s Day (March 1), was created by Dan and Laura Curtis.
The challenge, which will coincide with Armed Forces Week, encourages people to log their everyday distances for the charity.
This can be on foot, bicycle, rowing machine or wheelchair – but nothing with an engine is allowed to be counted.
The aim is that each mile clocked will help raise awareness and funds so the charity can continue to help servicemen and women who have been injured.
Mr and Mrs Curtis were first inspired to support the charity when they met with Invictus Games athletes in Florida in 2016.
In 2018, they released a fundraising single for Help for Heroes, which starred the likes of Sir Paul McCartney, Sir David Jason, Dame Judie Dench, Stephen Fry and more.
Dan Curtis said: “We are delighted to continue our support of Help For Heroes through the Dragon Challenge. We hope to raise much needed awareness and funds for the vital work that the charity undertakes. We have a profound personal gratitude for all those who have served and continue to serve.”
Help for Heroes recovery manager Shelley Elgin said: “Help for Heroes relies on the generosity of the public to fund our work, which simply wouldn’t be possible without the incredible support of our volunteers and fundraisers across the nation.”
