The leader and chief executive of Caerphilly County Borough Council has said changes to the way the local authority works are on their way in light of the current coronavirus crisis.

In a joint statement chief exec Christina Harrhy, and leader Cllr Philippa Marsden, said the council were taking all necessary steps to ensure the wellbeing of communities.

However, given the latest advice by the UK Government that people should work from home, if they can, and avoid unnecessary travel, the pair said this will change with further details released tomorrow (Tuesday, March 17).

They said: “At the moment council services remain operational as normal, however following today’s latest government announcement, we will be reassessing the position and making further detailed announcements tomorrow.

“Current government guidance is that schools should remain open for the time being. The message to parents is that, in line with other areas of Wales, our schools will open tomorrow as normal and the position will be kept under continuous review.

“Residents and parents are urged to follow the government’s revised social distancing guidelines announced today and anyone who is experiencing symptoms should continue to follow Public Health Wales advice.”

The total number of confirmed cases in Wales is 124 with 14 of those in Caerphilly County Borough.
