Robbers threatened shopkeeper with an axe

Police are continuing to investigate an armed robbery where two raiders threatened a shopkeeper with an axe.

Gwent Police said two men with balaclavas over their faces entered the Premier Stores, in Fleur-de-Lys Avenue, Pontllanfraith at around 8.35pm on Tuesday, March 17.

One of the robbers was armed with an axe and after threatening the shopkeeper took a quantity of cash.

The man carrying the axe, which had a red handle, was of slim build.

Both suspects are described as having local accents.

After leaving the shop, the pair turned left in the direction of Hill View.

A Gwent Police statement said: “We are appealing for any witnesses or any individuals who may have CCTV footage, dashcams from vehicles parked on the street or information about this incident to contact Gwent Police on 101, quoting log reference 2000095764.

“You can also contact the force via social media on Facebook and Twitter and you can report any information anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
