Coronavirus: bus timetable changes

Bus services across Caerphilly County Borough have been affected by the coronavirus outbreak.

A number of services are now running on a reduced basis, with many journeys cancelled entirely.

In a statement on Caerphilly County Borough Council’s website, the council says the situation has “resulted in bus operators having to review the level of service they provide.

“This is not just as a result of drivers and operational staff needing to self-isolate, but with fewer people travelling there is also a need to reduce costs to ensure that bus services are viable in the long-term.”

The council says it has worked with bus operators to provide a “basic level of service” across the borough to “allow access to town centres, supermarkets/pharmacies as well as trying to help those who need to get to work”.

The council said it has been unable to update timetables at bus stations and stops, with mobile apps and services not yet displaying up-to-date information.

However, the council admitted arrangements “may change at short notice”, as it continues to monitor and respond to government advice.

No services will be running on Sundays or on bank holidays.

Welsh Government’s economy and transport minister, Ken Skates AM, said: “The public transport network in Wales should now only be used by key workers, such as health professionals, in providing essential support for our communities, and those without a car to get to shops for essential food and medical supplies.”
