A heart defibrillator has been installed outside the Bumble Bee pub

Two potentially-life saving heart defibrillators have been installed in Blackwood thanks to community fundraising efforts.

The two defibrillators, which can be used to help someone having a heart attack, were installed last month.

The first defibrillator was installed at the Bumble Bee pub, with funds raised by Blackwood Town Football Club.

Club chairman Kelvin Drinkwater said: “It’s the club’s ten-year anniversary this year and this feels like a fitting way to give back to the local community. We are honoured to be able to do this.”

Mark Jones, manager of the Bumble Bee, said he was “really happy to get involved and give space for a new defibrillator which is accessible to the public and serves a purpose for the local community”.

The other defibrillator was installed at the Showfields thanks to funds raised by sisters Rhian Price and Bethan Morgan-Hoskins, in memory of their father, Paul Morgan.

Blackwood run to raise money for heart defibrillator

Mr Morgan passed away in January 2019, aged 65, after suffering a heart attack.

His family decided to raise funds for a defibrillator at the Showfields, which was one of his favourite places.

Mr Morgan was a keen bowler and was a member of Blackwood Bowls Club for 37 years.

Ms Price said the Bowls Club was “such a huge part of my dad’s life and therefore became such a huge part of our lives.”

She added: “He put his heart and soul into the club.”

The installation of the defibrillators was carried out free of charge by Taylour Electrical.
