An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of making abusive and verbal threats to a man and his granddaughter near in Caerphilly.

The incident took place at around 2pm on Tuesday, March 31, on Llwyn-On Street in Energlyn.

A spokesman for Gwent Police said: “An 18-year-old man from Caerphilly has been arrested on suspicion of committing a section 4 public order offence and he remains in police custody.

“We are appealing for any witnesses or any individuals who may have information about this incident to contact Gwent Police on 101, quoting log reference 2000109587.”

The arrest follows a number of incidents of antisocial behaviour in nearby Churchill Park over the last week, including reports of a pregnant woman being spat at and threatened by a gang of young men.

Cllr Jamie Pritchard, who represents the Morgan Jones ward, told Caerphilly Observer: “This threatening, abusive and appalling behaviour has been rightly condemned by residents living in Churchill Park and beyond.

“The distress caused to innocent people is not something that most people can easily just shrug off. I’m glad one person has now been identified. Any information we receive, we always pass to the police.”

Cllr Shayne Cook, who also represents the ward, added: “We continue to work closely with the police to tackle this kind of appalling behaviour. We need all crime reported to ensure resources are directed to where they need to be. Far too many crimes are still going unreported”.
