Victoria seeing her baby nephew for the first time

A Bargoed woman was able to meet her newborn nephew for the first time just before social distancing measures were enforced, but will have to wait a while for her first cuddles.

Cohan Dyl Gauden was born at Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr in Ystrad Mynach on Monday, March 16, in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.

Despite everyday life being radically affected by the outbreak, doting aunt Victoria Gauden found a way to meet her new nephew – all the while keeping herself and the newborn safe from any potential virus infection.

Separated by the glass window of mum Hayley’s house, young Cohan was introduced to his aunt for the first time – a story he will no doubt hear about for years to come.

Donations wanted for hospital staff and patients

Victoria said: “Following a straightforward birth, his mam had difficulties which led to her needing a blood transfusion. Both mother and baby are now home and doing well, however the blood transfusion left mam vulnerable.

“Due to the current global crisis with Covid-19, I didn’t want to pose a risk to mother or baby but was desperate to meet my gorgeous nephew.

“I had my wish and met my nephew, but no cuddles – just a precious meeting through the widow.

“I can’t wait for proper cwtches hopefully in the near future.”
