A woman from Maesycwmmer has shaved her hair to raise money for NHS workers to “have a night out on us” once the coronavirus pandemic is over.
Michele Pickett Jones said she made the “drastic” decision to “say a big thank you from the community”.
Ms Pickett Jones is aiming to raise £2,000 through her fundraiser, which has been set up on social media platform Facebook.
She is hoping to “give something back” to staff at Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr, Oakfield Street Surgery and Lloyd’s Pharmacy in Ystrad Mynach.
Ms Pickett Jones, who previously battled cancer and is currently off work due to the pandemic, said she wanted to do something to help.
“It would be nice to give something back to the staff. Hopefully, once this is all over, they’ll be able to let their hair down.
“They’re doing all they can under terrible circumstances.”
Ms Pickett Jones said one of the reasons she has shaved her hair is because it was one of her biggest fears while fighting cancer.
Ms Pickett Jones said she’s “uncomfortable about how I look”, but did it to show solidarity with the amazing people who are uncomfortable every day”.
