In a few short weeks our lives have been turned upside down by the spread of coronavirus. I know it is a really difficult time with schools disrupted, health treatment reprioritised, many workplaces closed and everyone having to adjust to the new public health rules.
The peak of the virus will vary at different times across the regions of Wales. Immense work has taken place to try and provide additional NHS beds. We are all so thankful to everyone who is on the front line in responding to the virus and also to people across our community who are playing a part in helping us deal with this situation. For many of us the best we can do is follow the advice: Stay at Home, Protect the NHS, Save Lives.
If we do this we minimise the risk of spreading the virus and give the best chance for our NHS to cope with the additional pressures. But families are losing loved ones and my thoughts go to everyone affected by this dreadful disease.
Casework
As your elected representatives, Gerald Jones MP and I continue to take up casework and we have daily inquiries to follow up as best possible in these circumstances. I have temporary office arrangements, but all my staff have their phones and computers. Of course for many organisations they are currently focused on dealing with the virus so some patience may be required on responses.
As your AM and MP we are also briefed by our health boards, the police and local councils about the situation. All this communication helps us to deal with queries from constituents. Advice is constantly being updated.
Keep in touch
So this is not my normal monthly blog given the circumstances we face. Clearly there are no community activities or events to attend at the moment, but please follow my Facebook, Twitter and website, which I am updating on a regular basis.
Most of all remain patient – there are a critical few weeks ahead in helping to tackle this virus and each one of us has a part to play. I can only repeat Stay at Home, Protect the NHS, Save Lives.
