The crash happened on St Mary Street, Risca

A man has been arrested after a drunk driver crashed into a wall outside a house in the early hours of Sunday morning (April 26).

The crash happened shortly before 5am on St Mary Street, Risca.

No injuries were suffered in the crash, with the house later deemed safe for residents to return.

At around 4.40am, police received a report of a drunk driver driving around Risca.

Police say the driver had been spotted by a police officer in Abercarn, who attempted to pull the driver over, but they refused to stop.

Vandal jailed after attacking police officer

After the crash, Welsh Ambulance Service, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, gas engineers and constructions engineers from Caerphilly County Borough Council were called.

The suspect fled the scene, but was later found after a police search with helicopters and dogs.

A 22-year-old man from the Cefn Fforest area was arrested in connection with the crash and has since been released under investigation.

Due to the fact officers had tried to stop the car, Gwent Police Professional Standards Department have been made aware of the incident and are reviewing the circumstances surrounding the crash.
